Young Adult Cancer Canada Climb

St. John's, Newfoundland

The Annual St. John's Young Adult Cancer Canada Climb is our largest community event and it sees hundreds of young and young at heart Young Adult Cancer Canada supporters climb Signal Hill.  The Young Adult Cancer Canada Climb was started as a way to mark the anniversary of Geoff Eaton's first unaided steps after a lengthy stay in the Intensive Care Unit in 1999.  To mark the anniversary in 2000, he climbed Signal Hill with 170 of his friends and has done so with a growing group of supporters each year since.  The event was designed to acknowledge that significant day, to continue to raise cancer awareness and to activate people in the community.  The Young Adult Cancer Canada Climb is an event that, at its core, has a ‘never give up’ spirit and is an exercise in hope for so many young adults dealing with cancer every day.

Young Adult Cancer Canada Remote Climbs

Young Adult Cancer Canada supporters all over the globe have hosted Climbs!  The event is about proving that anything is possible and that a cancer diagnosis is not the end.  Since 2000, volunteers have hosted Young Adult Cancer Canada Climbs in Calgary, Japan, Kenya, Ireland, Halifax, and the list goes on!  If you're interested in getting some friends or colleagues together to have a remote climb in your community, let us know and we'll tell you how to get started!

Shave for the Brave

The Shave for the Brave is for all those "brave" enough to go bald in support of Young Adult Cancer Canada!

This event was introduced in 2006 to replace Young Adult Cancer Canada's former community event, the Coins for Cancer Coin Drive, and the community response has been incredible!  To date there has been over 997 shavers and more than $115,000 raised!

There are lots of young adults out there dealing with issues like hair loss, fertility, education and social issues.  Involvement in this event is intended to make a statement; it shows that you care, and more importantly, it shows young adult cancer survivors and supporters that they are not alone!

In addition, hair donations of more than 10 inches are sent to Canadian organizations that create wigs for young people undergoing cancer treatment.

Other Young Adult Cancer Canada Events

Young Adult Cancer Canada also has a number of community events that activate our supporters and help to raise funds to support the organization's mission of providing support for young adults dealing with cancer.  Many of these community events are hosted by Young Adult Cancer Canada volunteers and are great fun for those involved!

Annual events include a golf tournament, slo-pitch tournament, musical showcase, and so on.  If you're interested in participating in any Young Adult Cancer Canada event let us know and we'll tell you how you can get involved!

Young Adult Cancer Canada Volunteers

Our administrative volunteers help to plan and host all of Young Adult Cancer Canada's events and fundraisers, help with important tasks around the office, and volunteers that have a connection to cancer often share their experiences on the RealTime Cancer Community, helping to support the growth of our web-based support tool.

Young Adult Cancer Canada also has a group of incredible program volunteers that help us manage the operations of the organization.  Our Board of Directors is comprised of a group of business people and educators that provide guidance on all Young Adult Cancer Canada activities.  Our Health Advisory Board is comprised of a group of medical professionals that helps to guide Young Adult Cancer Canada's healthcare operations.  The Young Adult Cancer Canada Young Adult Board is comprised of young adult survivors and supporters that assist with program and event related activity and provide an incredible insight into young adults dealing with cancer.

We love our volunteers and they make what we do possible! Check out the photo galleries for pictures of the Young Adult Cancer Canada team over the years!
