Programs

Young Adult Cancer Canada is here to provide support, inspiration and non-medical information to young adults who are dealing with cancer.  We know that young adult survivors and supporters are facing huge challenges that are very specific to their age group; fertility, finances and independence are only a few of the issues.  These issues are a lot different for a young adult than they are for children and older adults; someone who is in their sixties doesn't have the same concerns about fertility that a twenty-something does.

Some startling statistics: according to Statistics Canada, in 2001, 1990 young adults, ages 15-29 years were diagnosed with cancer compared with 840 kids, ages 0-14 years.   Also, in the past 25 years, the rate at which young adults have been diagnosed with cancer has not only been increasing faster, but survival rates have been increasing at a slower rate than younger and older patients.

Young adults face a huge gap when it comes to treatment and support.  Young Adult Cancer Canada is the only registered Canadian charity focused on young adult survivors and supporters and is making strides to fill the "Young Adult Gap", mainly through the implementation of our programs: Retreat YourselfSurvivor Conference, the Real Time Cancer Community and the Public Education Program
